At Feet First Foot Care, we know that our Middlesex County patients are doing their best to follow safety precautions to help prevent the spread of the virus—and there are signs that it’s working. One of those measures is self-isolating, something that can be particularly stressful if you live alone.

Here are some guidelines that can help:

Stay Connected—it’s especially important at this time that you maintain communication with loved ones and friends. Where a Facebook post or quick email may have sufficed in the past, now we need to hear each other’s voices and see faces whenever possible. Take advantage of Zoom, What’s App, facetime and other services that you can get for free and enable you to see and talk to those you are missing.

Change the Incoming Messages—limit the amount of time you spend watching the news. Being informed is one thing, but 24 hours of nonstop images and virus talk is unhealthy. Instead, look for upbeat podcasts, resources from your place of worship, or community social workers for some positive practices to create balance and improve emotional health.

Reach Out to Others in Need—if you know people in a situation similar to yours, give them a call or send a note or email—even if they’re not someone you’re really close to. Shared experiences create bonds. Plus, thinking about others is a good way to help us take some of the focus off our own stress and anxiety.

Get Some Fresh Air—the weather is finally getting warmer and flowers and shrubs are starting to bloom. It’s good to get some sun and take a brisk walk if possible. Exercise is also a mood elevator and will help you stay healthy.
