Foot ulcers effect diabetics in high numbers. They are openings in the skin of the foot that reveal the tissue underneath. There are Neuropathic ulcers, Ischemic ulcers and a combination of both. This condition appears on the ball of the foot or underneath the big toe. It is inconvenient due to its location and can be hard to avoid rubbing it against objects. If the sore gets infected and is left untreated, it could mean that an amputation is necessary.

Amputations may become required if not treated timely. There are some ways to prevent amputation such as only removing the infected skin from the ulcer or decreasing pressure around the ulcer. Medicines are another source of treatment. All diabetics have the potential to develop foot ulcers. Those diabetics that use insulin and also have another disease are usually at a higher risk of developing foot ulcers. Those who are overweight or drink large amounts of alcohol or smoke tobacco products frequently have high risks of the progression of foot ulcers.  Treatment may include proper cleaning and removing of dead skin, trying not to walk barefoot, wearing socks when possible and exercising to help with circulation. Stopping the bad habit of smoking is also helpful as it can increase circulation. Any healing cream can thereafter be applied prior to covering the wound to prevent further infection. In some instances, skin grafts may be utilized to protect the open wound from infection. Oxygen therapy can also be of assistance with speeding up the healing process when required

Due to the stubborn nature of this condition to be painful, we recommend that you please contact us as soon as possible to avoid severe pain. This condition can be treated effectively and your routine will immensely benefit from it!
